2017 HearthStone World Championship: Preview
The main event of the competitive HearthStone season kicks off today at Beurs van Berlage Convivence Centre in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, with 16 best players from all over the world competing for their share of a hefty prize pool set at $1,000,000.
The participants of tournament qualified through the seasonal HCT events and by earning competitive points in each region (the Last Call slots). Thus, the list of competitors looks as follows:

The matches will be played in Conquest Mode. Each player choses five decks and bans on of their opponent’s decks. The participating players were seeded into four groups based on their placements in the HCT seasonal events, where they will compete in a GSL format with best-of-three series. Top two players from each group will advance to the single-elimination playoffs bracket with best-of-five series.

The tournament is held on January 18-21. The prize pool is distributed among the players as can be seen below:
Prize Pool Distribution:
- 1st place – $250,000
- 2nd place – $150,000
- 3rd-4th places – $100,000
- 5th-8th places – $50,000
- 9th-16th places – $25,000
