Overwatch Contenders Gets Open Division and Expands to New Regions
Blizzard presented an updated format of the Overwatch Contenders – a tier-2 league in the Overwatch esports ecosystem that stands right below the Overwatch League.
In 2018 the league will be expanded into new regions: alongside North America, Europe, Korea, China and Pacific, the league will be played also in South America and Australia, making it seven regions in total. Another major innovation Blizzard announced is the introduction of Open Division. Players with high enough rank will be able to participate in Open Division, the best four teams will compete in Contenders Trials with four teams placed last in Overwatch Contenders for a chance to advance to the main league.
Starting in early 2018, there will be three seasons of Overwatch Contenders each year. Contenders Trials will be held at the end of each season.
