Gambit Defeats OG in WePlay Winter Madness Finals
A $100,000 online event WePlay! Dota 2 Winter Madness has completed with Gambit Esports defeating OG in the grand finals with the 3-0 score, securing $50,000 in prize money.
Gambit Esports qualified for the playoffs from the fourth place in Group A, where they lost to Elements Pro, Team Empire Hope, and Team Empire Faith, while managing to win only once by outplaying Hippomaniacs. In the playoffs they defeated Pavaga Gaming (2-0), Forward Gaming (2-1) and Ninjas in Pyjamas (2-0). OG were directly invited to the playoffs stage. On their way to the finals the current world champions defeated Vega Squadron (2-0) and NoPangolier (2-0). The final series concluded with the 3-0 score in favour of Gambit Esports.
The tournament took place from December 27th – January 5th. First, ten teams competed in two round-robin groups with best-of-one series. Then top two teams from each group advanced to the single-elimination playoffs bracket with best-of-three regular series and best-of-five grand finals, where they competed with four directly invited teams.
